The Crossroads Story

|
Crossroads Christian Church is an independent and autonomous congregation, free from all denominational controls or affiliations. Our
Elders prayerfully provide the vision and direction for our ministry.
Crossroads shares a common heritage with about 5,000 churches worldwide known as the Christian Churches / Churches of Christ. The
principle of this movement is to restore today’s church life as dictated by the teachings of the New Testament.
Although we exist apart from any external authority or control, we do participate with other churches in many projects and programs that
exalt Jesus Christ and spread the Gospel.
Our History
Our history reaches back to the 1940s when a fund was established at First Christian Church in downtown Evansville to support a new church
on the growing east side of the city. By the 1960s, significant momentum was created to pursue this vision.
On Easter Sunday in 1967, forty-four joyful souls gathered for morning worship in an eastside home – our very first service!
In 1969, property was purchased on the corner of Bellemeade and Cullen Avenues. The first building was constructed and Cullen Avenue
Christian Church opened its doors in November of 1969. Over the years, the building was expanded several times to accommodate a growing
church family.
In 1997, Cullen Avenue Church changed its name to Crossroads Christian Church in anticipation of a move to a greatly expanded new campus
under construction in Newburgh. On October 31, 1998, the Crossroads family celebrated its first service in the new 90,000 sq. ft. campus
on Outer Lincoln Avenue. A new campus addition of expanded space as well as extensive remodeling of our existing facility was completed in
2007.
Crossroads celebrated its 40th Anniversary on Easter of 2007.
